Men's 20km racewalk champion, Jefferson Perez

 
 

Olimpiada Ivanova, Russia, wins the women's 20km racewalk in Helsinki.

She set a new world record--worth a $100,000 bonus and a $60,000 winner's purse--en route to reclaiming the world championship title she won in 2001.

Ivanova served a two-year drug suspension and was disqualified after finishing 2nd at the 1997 World Championships in Athens.
